Split Screen is the title of a poetry anthology edited by Andy Jackson and published by Red Squirrel Press. The poetry is inspired by film and television, with similar or contrasting characters or programmes facing each other on the page. Andy made up the list of entries and invited around 70 poets to choose one to write a poem about. The book was published last year and launched at the StAnza Festival in St Andrews. Since then, Andy has organised readings all over the UK, featuring poets reading their own work and the work of others in the book. It’s a flexible and hospitable event format, and it always gone down well with audiences. I’ve taken part whenever I could.
Now Andy is planning a sequel, and he’s working through a huge list of suggested pairings. It’ll be great to see the list that he comes up with.
