I’m putting the finishing touches to two new Calder Wood Press titles – Setting Out, by Mercedes Clarasó, and Brief Encounters, by Judith Stewart.
I published A Blessing of Unicorns by Mercedes in 2007, and it sold out pretty quickly, so I’m delighted to be publishing this new one. Her sight is not good these days, and several of the poems are touching but courageous reflections on this. She had a Scottish mother and a Catalan father, and she lives in Dalkeith, where she’s still an active member of the local writers’ group.
Judith’s pamphlet is also her second one, Tyne & Esk Writers having published her first collection, Reunion, a few years ago. She has a very varied poetic repertoire, reflected in the contents of this new collection. She’s warm, witty, feisty at times, and very distinctive.
Normally I would post the cover images here, but both of these will be designed with textual covers. They should be available mid-October and are, respectively, the seventh and eighth titles I’ve published this year.
